PhotographyBLOG Has an Olympus E-400 Review
E-400There’s a review of the Olympus E-400 up at PhotographyBLOG.com. The E-400 is an interesting little camera, since it’s the lightest and smallest digital SLR currently on the market. Except in North America, where you can’t buy it. I still don’t understand that move, but there you have it.
PhotographyBLOG is reasonably happy with the camera, noting a good flash and no significant image quality concerns, concluding:
The Olympus E-400′s compact size might be enough to set it apart from the competition but once a protruding lens is attached it isn’t exactly pocket sized. That said, it could be the final nail in the coffin for bridge cameras like the Sony R1 and the Samsung Pro815, as it is lighter and smaller and offers all the creative benefits that an interchangeable lens camera can offer. … The Olympus E-400 delivers a pleasing user experience with straightforward handling that will appeal to beginners and enthusiasts alike.
I’m a little concerned that they report that it takes about one second for the camera to be ready after you turn it on, due to the anti-dust system shaking off sensor dust. One second is an eternity for a digital SLR to turn on. They don’t mention whether that can be turned off or not.
